The Practical Printer is rooted in the tradition of printing. We use digital technology instead of linotype, but the craft and the tradition remain the same as when Guttenberg changed the world. Our role is to serve this unique and distinguished industry.

The practical printer is exactly what the title suggests: digital printing for practical people. We aim to explain digital printing, in plain language, for busy people on tight deadlines, who would like to better understand the many facets of digital printing. The purpose of the practical printer is to make digital printing more coherent, to offer clarity to the perplexed.

I’ve been involved in most facets of the digital printing business since the 5.25” floppy disk, so I have watched the industry grow and flourish though many iterations over the past 30 years. I’m proud to consider this my chosen profession, and I love both the business, and the people I work with, and I intend to make entertaining and informative videos to communicate my affection.

I believe many of you would like to be more involved in the big picture, to explore new ideas and technologies–but with payroll, quarterly taxes, three big jobs due at week’s end, and your main installer calling in sick, you never seem to find the time. Hopefully, I can help keep you informed on best practices, new products, and industry trends.

I will do reviews, promotions, and interviews, and will highlight the best ideas and products on the market. I’m rarely the smartest guy in the room, but I often know who is, and I’ll find them and try to pass along their wisdom.
